What is a workspace?
Updated Jun 25, 2026
A workspace is your account on SheetApps — the container that holds everything your organisation builds and uses. Inside one workspace live your apps, your team members, and your plan. An app is a single tool built from one workbook; a workspace is the home that can hold many apps.
Workspace vs app
- A workspace is the account / organisation level: members, plan and billing, settings, and all your apps.
- An app is one web application generated from one Excel workbook, living inside a workspace.
- One workspace holds many apps and many members — switching between apps never changes who you are signed in as.
What's in a workspace
- Apps — each built from its own workbook.
- Members & roles — the people you invite, each with a role (owner, editor, viewer).
- Plan & billing — your limits (apps, members, storage, languages…) apply to the whole workspace.
- Settings — display, regional defaults and language options shared across the workspace.
Good to know
- You sign in once to a workspace and move between its apps from My Apps.
- A person can be a member of several workspaces. By default you admin only one; some plans allow running multiple workspaces (for example separate Dev, Staging and Prod) — see KB article Run separate Dev, Staging and Prod workspaces.
